Meet Megan Carlin

Meet Megan Carlin, RN, Case Manager, Swing Bed Specialist. Megan chose to a career in healthcare after watching her mother, who was an LPN, enjoy a successful career. She loves her job as a Swing Bed Specialist and has the opportunity to work with many disciplines within the healthcare field.

She gets a great deal of satisfaction knowing that everyone has done a great job when they have successful outcomes with the swing bed program. Megan’s ability to multitask and communicate well with coworkers are two of her strengths. The most difficult part of her job is not always being able to accomplish everything”in a days time”. To handle the stress Megan like to take a walk or exercise with her best friend. Her advice is to ‘dance like no one is watching.’ And, her two kids keep her laughing.

The accomplishment she is most proud of over the past year is surviving breast cancer and chemo while working her job and not giving up on herself or her goals. As a single mother of two and a cancer survivor, she has been through a lot, but she just keeps dancing.

THANKS Megan for all you do!

Meet Shannon King

Meet Shannon King, Infection Prevention Coordinator. Shannon has always been drawn to people and loves to share, so nursing has been a great fit for her personality and goals.

Shannon says that Infection Prevention is an exciting, evolving field and that no two day are ever the same. It is rewarding to know that she is making the hospital a safer place ‘behind the scenes’. Her job can be tough when she is seen an enforcer of ‘best practices’ and finds it frustrating when she can not make a difference as quickly as she might like. It does give her a sense of satisfaction when she sees the education, research and best practices paying off by keeping the infection rates low. To deal with the stress and pressures of her job Shannon like to exercise, be outdoors and loves riding her horse.

To anyone considering a career in healthcare, Shannon recommends that you be sure you are getting into it for the right reasons. She has received a few great pieces of advice. One is that you can make a difference one person at a time and the other is to develop a relationship with the chaos of life.

Shannon loves being able to work in and serve the community where she lives. Her favorite things in life are her family, friends, and animals. She loves the outdoors, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, camping and working with flowers.
